Musical fragment

The state philharmonic of Tg. Mures, a professional institution promoting the cult music genre, was established in the year 1950, being naturally and in fact the continuation of some excellent orchestral and choral ensembles that existed in the municipality from the Mures River as far back as the middle of the 19th century. From the establishment to this date the activity of the institution has been going on in the Palace of Culture from Tg. Mures, which has one of the most beautiful Halls of concerts in Europe. The philharmonic organizes permanent seasons that include symphonic, vocal- symphonic concerts, chamber music concerts and different recitals that are extremely attractive for our concertgoing public. Also, permanent seasons of lesson and educative concerts are organized, that have as an objective the musical education of children and young people, forming this way the future generation of concertgoers.

      Also as part of the seasons function three traditional musical festivals that also have a profound echo in the conscience of our concertgoers: the "Tirgu Mures Musical Days" Festival (in May), the "In Memoriam Constantin Silvestri" International Festival, (in October) and the "Musica Sacra" Festival (in December).
     The concert activity of the State Philharmonic is supported by the two artistic compartments: the symphony orchestra and the mixed choir, both having in their composition musicians of doubtless value, the majority with superior education.
     In the Palace of Culture from Tg. Mures the State Philharmonic has excellent spaces: rehearsal halls, dressing-rooms, a music library, and the symphony orchestra has in its endowment musical instruments of the last generation, extremely efficient, the quality of concerts being appreciated both by the audience and by the conductors and soloists we co-operate with, many of them world renown.
     The artistic repertoire is extremely rich and diversified and includes the majority of the works from the universal and Romanian musical literature, beginning from the renaissance period to the contemporary creation.
     The material-financial support of the Tg. Mures State Philharmonic is entirely ensured by the Mures County Council, which all these years has had an excellent opening towards the problems of the institution.
     Besides the concerts at the hall, both the symphony orchestra and the mixed choir are invited to give concerts in different other Halls from the municipality, but also from urban and rural localities from the county and from other counties.
     Due to the professional competence and seriousness of the artists, the Philharmonic had concert tours in the majority of the European countries (R. of Hungary, Austria, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, England, Ireland, Sweden, the former Yugoslavia, Switzerland) as well as Japan.
     So that some exceptional artistic events are fully successful, the State Philharmonic is supported on occasion also by other institutions and economic agents from the municipality and from the county, to whom it is grateful.
