The founder of Mures County Museum was
Aurel Filimon. At the 1st of May 1021, The Town Hall from Tirgu Mures
nominated him as the keeper of the Museum. The Museum from that time
consisted in an archeology collection - made in 1882 by Ferenc Kovacs
- a priest who, together with Farkas Deak made some diggings in Cristesti.
In those times it was well-known a collectioner of archeological findings
named Domokos Teleki, from Gornesti. In Apold was operating in those
times, a Museum realized after the model of Brukenthal Museum from
Sibiu, including a collection of furniture, ceramics and documents.
We have to mention also, the Pinacoteca (Art Gallery) from the Palace
of Culture, which was made in 1913.
In 1921, the Museum from Tirgu Mures
was holding an archeology collection and a ethno-popular art collection,
constituted by Aurel Filimon. These collections composed the first
permanent exhibitions of the museum. It was opened for the public
in 1934 in the Palace of Culture. In present, the County Museum includes
the following divisions: (Archeology-History, Arts, Nature Sciences,
Ethnography and Popular Art).
In the County's main localities, there
are also some other museums like the History Museum from Sighisoara;
The Ethnographic Museum from Reghin, The History Museum from Tirnaveni.
Beside these, you can find in our county some memorial houses, church-museums
and private collections.
The museum collections are constituted
from values of national cultural patrimony. The number of the museum
objects increases every year, through donations, purchasing and collections.
The staff of the museums consists in well trained personnel: scientific
